Amazon Basics Basket Coffee Filters Are $2.45 Live — Melitta #4 Cone Hits $16.94 While Our Basics Card Still Says $7.48

Live Amazon: Amazon Basics basket 200-count is $2.45 one-time (Prime deal ~$1.89). Melitta #4 cone 80-count is $16.94 from a marketplace seller. Our Basics card still says $7.48 — ignore it. Basket vs cone is the real choice.

Verdict: The Amazon Basics basket coffee filters (200-count) are $2.45 live one-time today — about 1.2¢ a filter. A Prime-only deal was showing around $1.89 when I checked. The Melitta #4 cone filters (80-count) are $16.94 — about 21¢ a filter — and that card is a cone, not a basket. Our Home & Kitchen card for the Basics pack still says $7.48 (with a nonsense $30.76 “original”). That card is stale. I would buy the Basics basket for a drip machine and only open the Melitta tab if my pour-over actually takes a #4 cone.

I cook and brew at home in Austin. I am not posting a TDS meter or a taste lab. I am asking whether you are matching filter shape to the brewer you already own, and whether our $7.48 catalog number should ever stop you from clicking Add to Cart at $2.45.

What it is

The Amazon Basics basket pack is 200 white basket filters for most 8–12 cup basket coffeemakers. Paper, industrially compostable where facilities exist (ASTM D6868-11), SFI-certified paper claim on the listing. Live one-time buy box today: $2.45 against a “typical” around $2.23. Sold by Amazon.com, ships from Amazon.com. In stock. Listing blob: about 4.8 from roughly 25,000 ratings. Our catalog still shows $7.48 with a $30.76 original — both wrong for the buy box I see. Trust Amazon, not that card.

The Melitta 625000 is an 80-count #4 cone filter pack (green, unbleached/bamboo-style paper on the listing). Double-crimped cone, chlorine-free claim, compostable paper. Live: $16.94 (~$0.21/count). Ships from Amazon; sold by marketplace seller Marc O'Claw when I checked — confirm the seller line before you pay. Listing blob: about 4.6 from roughly 7,700 ratings. Our catalog scraped a CAD $4.98 style card. That is not a US buy-box quote. Do not treat it as today’s dollar price.

Same aisle. Different geometry. Basket sits in a drip basket. Cone sits in a pour-over or cone basket. Amazon’s own Basics copy even says: if you like Melitta basket filters, try these. The Melitta ASIN on our site today is the cone SKU. That is the whole story.

Who it's for

Buy the Amazon Basics basket at $2.45 if your Mr. Coffee / Cuisinart / generic drip uses a flat basket and you just need a brick of filters in the pantry. 200 count at a penny-ish each is the drawer stock. Confirm the Prime deal price only if you are already Prime — the one-time number I am quoting is $2.45.

Buy the Melitta #4 cone at $16.94 if you already own a #4 pour-over cone or a machine that takes #4 cones and you want that Melitta paper. Pay the per-filter premium for the shape you need, not for a logo next to a drip machine that wants a basket.

Who should skip

Skip Melitta if your machine is a basket drip — a cone will not sit the way the basket does, and 21¢ a sheet is the wrong math for that job. Skip Basics if you need a #4 cone and you already know Melitta (or another cone brand) is what your ceramic pour-over takes. Skip both if you use a permanent mesh basket or a reusable cloth and you are done with paper. Skip a Melitta checkout if the seller is not who you meant to pay — today’s box was a marketplace seller, not Melitta’s own storefront.

Honest nits

  • Catalog is loud and wrong on Basics. Card $7.48 (and $30.76 original) vs live one-time $2.45. That is not a mild refresh lag. Do not wait for a “sale” down from $7.48. Live is already under three dollars.
  • Melitta catalog currency is junk for this post. I am quoting the live US page at $16.94, not our CAD-looking $4.98 scrape.
  • Basket ≠ cone. I will not pretend an 80-count cone pack replaces a 200-count basket pack. Shape first, brand second.
  • Prime deal vs one-time. I saw a Prime-tagged deal near $1.89 and a one-time around $2.45. I am using $2.45 as the comparable buy-box number. Refresh the page; deals move.
  • I will not fake a side-by-side brew cupping. Paper thickness and fit in your basket matter more than a brand paragraph. If filters are short for your basket, that is a size miss, not a reason to pay Melitta cone prices for drip.

Value verdict

Buy the Amazon Basics basket at $2.45 for everyday drip stock — and ignore our $7.48 card. Buy the Melitta #4 cone at $16.94 only if you need that cone. Buy neither if you already have a sleeve of the right shape in the cabinet.

Worth trading Basics for Melitta on a basket machine? No. Worth Melitta when your pour-over is a #4 cone? Yes, if that paper is what you already trust — just confirm the seller.

Compare

Live Amazon buy-box prices, October 4, 2026: compare Amazon Basics basket filters and Melitta #4 cone filters.

Live prices checked on Amazon product pages for October 4, 2026 (US buy box; Austin desk). Our Amazon Basics catalog card was far above the live one-time price; Melitta’s catalog card did not match the live US dollar buy box. Confirm the live Amazon seller, Prime deal vs one-time, and filter shape before you buy.

Since 908, Melitta has stood for quality, innovation, and great taste. Using the Pour-Over method to prepare your coffee leads to a richer, smoother, cup of coffee. Within a few tries, you will find your perfect coffee by experimenting with the coffee and water amount. The Pour-Over method is also more as you are preparing only what you need, and the coffee grinds and filter paper are both naturally compostable. Did we forget to mention you get cafe quality at a fraction of the price too? Our Signature Series Matte Red Ceramic Pour-Over brews handcrafted coffee in three simple steps: Place Pour-Over cone on top of your mug, insert Melitta cone. Scoop in your favorite fresh ground coffee to taste coffee filter. Pour hot water (just off the boil) into the cone, fully saturating all grounds. The Matte Red Ceramic Signature Series Pour-Over Coffeemaker is an elegant interpretation of the original Pour-Over Coffeemaker that our founder, Melitta Bentz, invented over 00 years ago. A medium-size drip opening provides a consistent brew and eliminates risk of bitterness while a ring underneath the drip opening directs coffee flow into mug and prevents runoff. And lastly, our full-height ridges within the cone provide the optimal flavor extraction. Melitta: Join the pursuit for better coffee.
