Austin does not get a long winter, but late October is when the first cold mornings show up and people start shopping for a small heater. I am not posting a warm-up stopwatch or a decibel chart of my own. The question is simple: is the DREO worth about $14.44 more than the Amazon Basics?

What it is

The Amazon Basics heater is a small 1500W ceramic heater with three settings: High (1500W), Low (900W), and Fan Only. It weighs about 3 lbs and measures about 7.5" x 6.3" x 9.5", so it fits under a desk or on a shelf. It has tip-over protection, overheat protection, and a power light. It does not oscillate. The listing claims about 43 dB. Rating 4.5 from about 29,407 ratings. A silver version (B07V6M3PDX) was also $20.69 on this check.

The DREO heater is also 1500W PTC ceramic, but it adds the controls I actually want in a bedroom. You can set the thermostat from 41°F to 95°F in 1°F steps, and it has Power heat, ECO, and Fan Only modes, a remote, a 12-hour timer, a mute option, and a child lock. DREO lists a tilt-detection sensor for tip-over protection, V0 flame-retardant materials, overheat protection, and a safety plug. It has a carry handle. The listing claims about 34 dB thanks to a brushless DC motor. The color on this check is Gold. Rating 4.4 from about 21,690 ratings.

Who it's for

Buy the DREO at $35.13 if the heater is going in a bedroom or a nursery-adjacent room. The exact thermostat, the timer, and the remote mean you can set it once, turn it off from bed, and let it shut down on its own. The quieter fan and mute option matter more at night than at a desk.

Buy the Amazon Basics at $20.69 if you want heat in one small spot: feet under a desk, a home office corner, or a cold bathroom-adjacent closet that is not damp. It is light, simple, and cheap, and for that job a remote and a timer do not change much.

Who should skip

Skip both if you want to heat a whole open-plan living room. A 1500W plug-in heater is a spot heater, not a furnace replacement.

Skip both for bathrooms or laundry rooms. The Amazon Basics listing says plainly not to use it in high-moisture areas, and I would treat the DREO the same way.

Honest nits

Catalog prices are off. DREO catalog $39.99 vs live $35.13. Amazon Basics catalog $19.79 vs live $20.69. Confirm the buy box before you click.
Noise numbers are the brands' claims. The 34 dB and 43 dB figures come from the listings. I did not measure them.
Amazon Basics has no remote or timer. If you fall asleep with it on, it stays on until you get up.
Neither oscillates. Point them where you sit.
Plug straight into the wall. Any 1500W heater should go directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or a thin extension cord.

Value verdict

Buy the DREO at $35.13 for a bedroom. Buy the Amazon Basics at $20.69 for a desk or a small spot. Buy neither for a damp room or a big open space.

Worth the extra $14.44 for the DREO? If you will run it at night, yes. The timer and the 1°F thermostat are what you are paying for.
