Customer Reviews Summary

WOW! SJM came out swinging with this one. All the previous world building and lead up finally start to weave itself together as the pending battle looms. Aelin is back in Rifthold and she has a score (or two) to settle. Back in a land without magic she's forced to fall back on her past skill set as the country's most lethal assassin. Top of her hit list? Arobynn King of Assassins and The King of Adarlan. Both who have wronged Aelin and those closest to her.Characters: I love the absolute depths of Aelin's character we get to see in this book. The forethought, planning and sheer cunning she puts into place as she plots her revenge is masterful. You really get to see another more intelligent side of her outside of the blood hungry killer. I also finally started to find a love for Manon in this book, that I never had before, who reveals more of a subtle compassionate side as the book moves on. Of course that smoldering, slow burn chemistry between Aelin and Rowan is still present and I'm here for it!! I can't wait to see that finally combust. The character growth and arc for Lysandra into another kick ass female, was also well done and a pleasant surprise. I'm not sure how I feel about the budding love interest between Chaol and Faliq but I want to see him happy to am willing to see where it goes. Also the bromances in this book. I love the connections between Dorian/Chaol and Rowan/Aedion.Plot: this book moves at a fast pace between two main locations and throws even more characters at you but it was easy to follow along and stay on track. I loved the little surprises and plot twists ( especially one in the last few chapters) that you just didn't see coming. As ever, there was strong world building that just enhances on past books. I enjoyed all the sub plots that let some of our lesser characters shine and give insight and motivation to some of the events. Over all a good set up for whats to come."Let's go rattle the stars"
