I'm a big fan of the Watch subseries of Discworld novels, and Night Watch is possibly the best of the bunch.After a magical accident sends him into his own past during particularly momentus events, Sam Vimes must survive whilst staying true to himself and his future, as he guides a rag-tag night watch through the chaos.It helps to have some familiarity with the core Watch characters, and with the City of Ankh-Morepork, but it's not essential. The history of a number of familiar and beloved characters is fleshed out, and their stories entwined in unexpected yet fully believable ways. All this is done with Pratchett's unique wit and wordplay, to create a perfect moment in Discworld lore.
