Customer Reviews Summary

“Mine.” Ilya’s breath tickled Shane’s skin when he spoke the single word.“Yours,” Shane said dreamily.“All of this. For two weeks. Is mine.”Forever, Shane wanted to say. Forever if you ask.—Rating: 4.75 ✨Smut: 3 🌶️—“The two most talked about prospects in the world: Canada’s Shane Hollander and Russia’s Ilya Rosanov.”These two hockey players are at the top of the stats boards and constantly battling it out for accolades and trophies. Their rivalry is hyped up in the media but no one knows that these two are holding onto a secret that would shock the world.I could leave my review at “I get the hype and it is SO merited” and that would be enough, to be frank. This is such a fun time in the bookish community when a tv show based on a book is going viral so I absolutely had to hop onto the hype train. Now I’m hyperfixated and can’t get off the train and quite frankly, I don’t even want to.I think the beauty of romance, as I often say, is that while this book is fictional, you can’t help but wonder if there are actually hockey players with situationships like Ilya and Shane’s and if so, what a beautiful thing but also what a sad thing that they can’t feel safe coming out and being authentically themselves.Rachel Reid created a celebration of yearning and love in all of its forms while also highlighting how difficult it is to love and be loved in a society where being a gay hockey player isn't looked upon positively and in some places, can even jeopardize your safety.Their story is artfully split into parts that allow us to fall for the characters as they fall for each other over the years. Reading their love story was an absolute rollercoaster because you’re rooting SO hard for these two loverboys but Rachel Reid also does a fantastic job of making sure you experience that same frustration that they must be feeling, knowing that they cant be open, to each other and to the world, about what they want and who they want. Especially as their feelings deepen, you can’t help but want to shake everyone around them and scream don’t you see! Let them love each other! Also, the way their anxieties around coming out are described, especially in Ilya’s situation, was so well written, without it seeming like they’re each other’s dirty secrets, which I loved. The agony these characters both feel just for wanting each other was haunting. The tension and chemistry was obviously sexy. The banter was hilarious and the characters were just so loveable. So naturally, this is the perfect book to get you out of a reading slump.Overall, Ilya and Shane are now my baby boys and I want to re read their book over and over and over agaim. If you’re avoiding hopping on the hype train, I literally implore you to pick up this book anyways.& if you love:🏒 Hockey romance🏒 Grumpy x sunshine / opposites attract🏒 Enemies to lovers🏒 Secret love🏒 Situationship but make it FULL of angst, tension, YEARNING and agony🏒 Cheeky banterThen this one is for youand this is one of those books that I’ll say, even if you don’t like all these tropes, read the book anyways. It’s THAT good.
