Sonos Era 100 Review: The $219 Room Speaker I Buy When Wi-Fi Beats Bluetooth
Sonos.com and Crutchfield still list the Era 100 at $219. I treat it as a stereo room speaker with Bluetooth as a backup, not as a picnic brick. Here is when the app tax is worth it.

I have run Sonos in a one-bedroom since the Play:1 days. That is not a flex. It is a warning: once you live in the app, every Bluetooth brick feels like a downgrade until you leave the house. The Era 100 is the current small room speaker. Black ASIN B0BW34LCB8. White is B0BW2LVJ4P.
Sonos.com has it at $219. Crutchfield matches $219. That is the number I will print on August 22, 2026. Prime Day saw it in the $179 range. I am not going to pretend $179 is on the tile today. If Amazon is above $219, buy it from Sonos. If Amazon is at $179 again, that is the click.

What I actually use in a room speaker
Stereo in one box. One tweeter, one mid-woofer, and a voicing that is wider than the old One. It is not a stereo pair. It is a single speaker that no longer sounds like a mono clock radio. If you want a real stage, buy two and stereo-pair them. Sonos still sells that as the upgrade path.
Radios. Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, AirPlay 2. Bluetooth is the backup for a guest phone, not the daily driver. Daily driver is the Sonos app or AirPlay from a Mac. There is a line-in path if you buy the adapter. I use that for a cheap turntable. I do not pretend it is a phono preamp.
Voice. Alexa and Sonos Voice Control are optional. I leave mics off unless I am cooking. A speaker that requires a wake word to justify its price is a speaker I would skip. The Era 100 does not require it.
Trueplay. Phone-mic tuning. Run it once per room. It is the one Sonos ritual I still do. I will not publish before-and-after curves I did not measure. I will say the kitchen tile version and the rug version should not share a preset.
What it is not
It is not portable. There is no battery. It is not the Sonos Play I already reviewed on this site. It is not a soundbar. Humidity-resistant enough for a bathroom; not a pool speaker. If you need IP67 and a loop, that is the SoundLink Flex.
The processor-speed slide in the Era 100 deck is noise. You cannot hear a percent. You can hear bass that does not fall apart at 30% volume in a bedroom.
Who should buy it at $219
- You already have one Sonos in the house and you want the next room to play the same queue.
- You want AirPlay without buying a HomePod.
- You will leave it on a shelf and never put it in a backpack.
Who should skip it
- First speaker, no app patience. Buy the Flex or a Flip and stay happy.
- You need a battery. Wrong product.
- You want a soundbar. Wrong product.
- $219 feels like $249 from last year and you can wait for the $179 Prime Day number. I would wait if this is speaker four, not speaker one.
Value over hype
Sonos will sell you "next-gen acoustics." I will sell you a $219 Wi-Fi speaker that does stereo-ish sound in one box and joins the house queue. The Bluetooth button is there so a guest can connect without an account argument. That is the feature, not the headline.
I do not buy a new Era every spring. I buy one when a room is silent and I am tired of carrying a brick from the kitchen. At $219 that is an honest trade. At $249 I would look at last-gen used Ones.
