I'm Riley Patel. I train people in Denver, and the other athlete in my house is a dog that pulls on pavement and settles down on dirt. A collar is a terrible tool for a puller on a busy path. The Ruffwear Front Range is the everyday harness I put on dogs that need a chest clip for training and a back clip for a relaxed walk.

Brand list is $59.99. $37 on Small is a real cut. $65 on one Large is a color/size tax. I would not pay over list for blue.
Why this harness
Two leash points: aluminum V-ring on the back for a normal walk, reinforced chest clip to redirect a puller. Four adjustment points. Padded chest and belly. ID pocket so tags stop ringing. Reflective trim and a loop for Ruffwear's Beacon light (sold separately).
That is the feature set I want on a Front Range trailhead parking lot at dusk. I do not need a tactically overbuilt rescue harness for a neighborhood loop.
Fit is the whole product. Ruffwear's girth chart — not "my dog is a lab so Large" — is how you avoid chafing. A loose harness is how a dog backs out at the first squirrel.
Who should buy it
Buy it if your dog pulls and you are willing to use the front clip for a month. The chest attachment is a training aid, not a magic no-pull gadget. I still coach a loose-leash walk.
Buy Small at $37 if that is the measured size. That is the deal.
Skip it if you need a handle for lifting a dog over a downed tree — look at Ruffwear's Web Master instead. I did not price that model today, so I am not quoting it. Skip a $65 listing when the same harness is $37 in another color.
Field notes, not a costume
I have used Front Range-style harnesses on dusty Front Range paths and on city sidewalks after a gym session. Closed-cell padding is why they can stay on for a long day without cooking a short-coated dog as badly as cheap nylon. Still: check for rub behind the armpits after the first hour.
Hand wash, air dry. That is the care line. A sandy buckle fails if you never rinse it.
The $10 habit that matters more than a second harness
Poop bags. Our catalog has Earth Rated lavender 120-count at $9.34 (shown against $13.99) and Amazon Basics 300-count unscented at $8.99. I would rather you buy bags you will actually refill than a second colorway of the same harness.

The Front Range is trail-tested daily-driver gear. On August 22, 2026, I would buy the Purple Sage Small at $37.46 if that size is right — and I would walk away from a $65 Large in blue. Size it, use the front clip while you train, then enjoy the back clip when the dog is decent.
