Just received this (on CD) and listened through twice. Initial impressions: a dark twin to Stories From A Rock n Roll Heart and perhaps the crowning achievement of her career (in terms of recorded work). Top class musicians and musicianship, powerful lyrics and her voice delivering every one of her words with clarity. “So Much Trouble In The World” (with Mavis Staples) seems, for me at least, the highlight amongst highlights. Her voice may have changed with the ravages and accidents of age but it has a steely strength of conviction, urgency and intention to it that is mesmerising.
