Customer Reviews Summary

Wow - this thing is amazing! As a long-time techno-geek, I appreciate the simplicity, design, form and function of this streaming stick. The remote is simple and with a comfortable pill shape that easily fits in the palm of your hand. The small purple tag at the bottom quickly lets you know which side is the bottom when you're fumbling around for the remote in the dark. The 4K stick easily plugs into the HDMI port on your TV and also requires a USB port for power. In the photo I submitted, I used my own small white USB cable, but the stick comes with a long, black USB cable. The setup was painless and straightforward. You need a Roku account, which you can create using this device or set it up in advance on your computer. You then log in to your Roku account and then into each of the streaming services you use, such as Netflix, Prime, Disney+, Crave, and Apple TV.The user interface is just outstanding. It's as though Roku extensively interviewed hundreds of ordinary people (not engineers or programmers), asked them what *they* wanted in an entertainment interface, then took all those comments, ideas, thoughts, and suggestions and used them to create the interface. A tech company actually provides something that users want - whoa, what a concept. The wrap-around scrolling feature (also called “circular scrolling” or “looping navigation”) of the various menus and lists is brilliant. When you get to the bottom of a menu or list, rather than manually scrolling upwards to get to the top again, the list repeats itself in an endless loop. Genius points for that.Unlike the clunky interface of some TVs, installing, removing and moving apps around is a breeze. The interface elements move quickly, sharply and easily with simple and clean animations. It even comes with some handy video tutorials. The video and audio quality are excellent, reaching up to 4K. I've tested this with all the major providers, including Netflix, Prime, Disney+, Apple, YouTube, CBC Gem, TVOToday, Tubi, Plex, and Global TV, and they all worked flawlessly. I love how Roku integrates all these apps into one seamless platform. When you search for something, it returns results from all these providers. I also like how you can set the wallpaper (background) for the main screen. The live Roku TV has many channels. Now, not all of them will interest everyone, but you can easily mark some as favourites and also hide channels that you don't want to see. They cover a wide range of interests including crime, news, classic TV sports, home and DIY, comedy, movies, music, game shows, and entertainment.Another great feature is the voice input, accessed with the microphone button. You can use it to quickly go to a section, app or channel - very handy.Note that all the pictures I’ve included in my review are of the actual interface. I didn’t touch up or enhance these photos. My TV is an 83” Samsung 4K QLED.Major TV manufacturers could learn a great deal from Roku. Smart TVs are often not that smart when it comes to installing and managing apps, and having a simple, clean, and usable interface - Roku just nails it.This streamer breathes new life into any TV, even older ones, as long as they have an HDMI port. It’s so good that I bought two. (And no, I am not a Roku employee or paid reviewer - I just love great tech!)
