Customer Reviews Summary
When I was browsing upcoming Switch 2 releases back in January, there wasn't a lot of information about this game. All I had were a few screenshots and a description that immediately made me think of one of my favourite games from the Xbox 360: Viva Piñata. The idea of playing a game that blended Viva Piñata with Pokémon appealed to me enough to keep an eye on this one. As the game's release got closer, more and more information surfaced, including videos on the official Nintendo channels on YouTube. The new information convinced me to pre-order this game, and I'm glad I did. There's far more to this game than Viva Piñata meets Pokémon. The influence of building and crafting games like Dragon Quest Builders (same developers) and Minecraft is strong here, as is the influence of Nintendo's most popular social simulation series: Animal Crossing. It also reminded me of other Pokémon spinoff titles like Pokémon Channel and the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series, which feature talking Pokémon. The game's premise is that humans have abandoned the region, and the region has become a desolate wasteland. Many Pokémon got left behind, including a Ditto that can transform into a likeness of its missing human trainer. Ditto's task is to turn the desolate wasteland back into a place that is suitable for both Pokémon and humans. They will start by doing simple things like watering the trees and grass to attract other Pokémon, and then they'll move on to creating buildings, growing vegetables, running errands for the other Pokémon, and uncovering the mystery of what happened to the region. The game has a core plot that can be played through at the player's own preferred pace. As the plot progresses through fulfilling requests, the player unlocks more and more ways to alter the environment to their liking and can access new areas to explore. If you want to build your dream home in this game, you can. If you want to turn a minecart and rails into a roller coaster, you can. There are plenty of options to let your creativity run wild. It's up to you how long you take to fulfil requests and progress the main narrative. If you want to just hang out with your Pokémon friends and do some gardening, you can. There's never a shortage of things to do in this game. It's easy to lose track of time while playing it. It's full of charm and will satisfy fans of the Gen 1 Pokémon titles with its many nostalgic references to those games. Both the quality and the quantity of the gameplay here justify the price in my opinion.PROS:- Fun and varied gameplay- Many things to do- Huge map to explore- Charming and nostalgic- Cute and colourful graphics- Soothing soundtrackCONS:- Game-key card (the game is not on the cartridge and requires a full download)
