Five stars to both authors for this extraordinary account. Virginia Roberts Giuffre is the only author to appear on the front cover since it is her core material and her account of her serial abuse unfolding event after event and layer upon layer throughout her life. Her ghost-writer, Amy Wallace, writes a helpful note at the start. I think that was the right balance for the authors and publishers to strike for a book which emerged out of their meetings, discussions and the working relationship they developed.For such shocking, sad and distressing content, the account is written in a surprisingly elegant and accessible way. The book is very well written and the recounting of events and associated feelings, often very mixed but also very dark, makes this a very interesting study of evil and of being a victim who decides to fight back.Trauma, PTSD and the psychological complexity of living through such ghastly experiences is captured well. And on the other hand, the authors describe the wide variety of sociopathic narcissists, criminals and inadequates who perpetrated the serial abuse. At times, the account, its settings and the various characters reminded me of the outlandish scenarios and opulent lairs of Bond villains along with the villains themselves and their flunkies and hangers on. But the accounts of Epstein, Maxwell and their circle are more hellish than that.Both authors should win and hopefully will win awards for this excellent and poignant portrayal of human suffering.
