I have just finished putting together this Lego Gameboy and I must say the whole process was an absolute joy from start to finish. Throughout the build, the internal mechanisms kept me guessing, and I was constantly impressed by the clever engineering used to recreate such an iconic bit of kit. It is one of those sets where you spend half the time wondering why a certain piece is going in a specific spot, only for it to click into place later as part of a brilliant moving function or a perfectly angled bit of casing. The attention to detail is spot on, and the final result looks fantastic on the shelf; it really captures that chunky, nostalgic feel of the original handheld perfectly. Every stage of the construction felt rewarding, and seeing the inner workings come together to mimic the buttons and screen was a real highlight for me. It is a sturdy build once finished, and it doesn't feel fragile or like it might fall apart if you move it around to show someone. For anyone who grew up with one of these in their pocket, the building experience is a lovely trip down memory lane that holds your interest right until the last brick is snapped into place. The interchangeable screens for Zelda and Supermario are so cool - it's these little details that really make it! I bought this as a gift for myself, but have already decided I will get this and gift to a friend who is also a Gameboy / Lego fan. It's great value for money even at full price in my opinion. The only other build that came close was the upscales mini figure. It is a brilliant example of how creative these sets can be, and it definitely stands out as one of the more engaging projects I have tackled in a while. Unlike some simpler models, this one really makes you appreciate the thought that went into the design phase, and it has ended up being a real talking point in my home.
