Customer Reviews Summary
For anyone who loves Blake's Seven - or vintage telly sci-fi - Series 3 in these continuing stunning collections, is A MUST. Not only does it contain another 13 highly watchable episodes; but the sheer quality and depth of the extras on offer, provides wonderful value for money. The high point for many, being the seamless choice of NEW special effects. Which not only illustrates how great the original designs of this show were, but adds a modern sheen: making the episodes fresh for long term fans.Originally transmitted in early 1980, Series 3 returned minus two of its biggest stars. Gareth Thomas as heroic Roj Blake; and Sally Knyvette's striking Jenna. But rather than this being a stumbling block, creator Terry Nation's opening script ( Aftermath ), paves the way for an imaginative and startling direction for the series. With Paul Darrow's iconic AVON, taking centre stage. An exciting opening chapter after the events of the previous Star One, we are introduced to the excellent, and beautiful Josette Simon's DAYNA here. A memorable and strong female character, who is a weapons expert to boot. The following instalment - Powerplay - provides a second, original, crewmate to the fold, in the form of handsome newcomer Steven Pacey's TARRANT. Reminiscent of a young Pierce Brosnan, Pacey later excels in the adventure: Death Watch. Where he plays a dual role in a futuristic vision of reality TV... AND that's the THING really about Series 3 - MORE CRACKING SCI - FI TO ENJOY. With notable productions, once more scripted by the talented CHRIS BOUCHER. His " City At The Edge Of The World, " is simply delightful entertainment. A story where the often cowardly crew member of Vila, gets a chance to shine ( an episode often cited for one Colin Baker ) ; as does the brilliant Darrow, in Boucher's " Rumours of Death." This fantastic actor, really found his calling with his portrayal of the shady Kerr AVON. I cannot recommend him enough. With the missing Blake, leading to events in the 13th and final episode of this run's " Terminal " - those who know the programme, or decide to treat themselves to this new box set, will experience the glory of its MIGHTY CLIFFHANGER ANEW. Safe in the knowledge, that Blake's Seven's greatest achievement is still to come with the release of series 4.Sadly, they don't make ' em like this anymore ! TELEVISUAL GOLD.
