Customer Reviews Summary
Delaney learned from a young age to trust no one, and never let anyone get close enough to break her. When she came forward months ago to save her half-sister from their monster of a father, she hadn’t expected to have a relationship with her, let alone find herself welcomed into her friend group. A night out at the bar turns into a nightmare when a predator refuses to take no for an answer, and just when she thinks it’s all over, she wakes up in the hospital and is told that the man she met at work last summer saved her life, and risked everything to do so. Willing to do anything to save the only man she has ever felt safe with, she finds herself planning a wedding, while trying to keep the nightmares at bay.The first time Ryker saw Delaney in the bar where she worked, he knew she was different, and when his multiple attempts to have her agree to go out with him failed, he chose to walk away. When she came back into his orbit, moving to town after connecting with her sister, he tried to respect her wishes and stay away, but as they’re both out at the bar with their friends, he can’t keep his eyes off her. After saving her from a creep, he offers to take her home, but when they get separated, he is horrified to find her outside at the other man’s mercy, and reacts violently. Now everything he has ever worked for is in jeopardy, but deep down he knows he would gladly throw it all away to keep Delaney safe, so when his cousin declares that the best way to keep him out of prison is for them to get married, he can’t refuse. But there’s a difference between playing house and falling in love, and as those lines begin to blur, there may be more than just their lives at stake.I received an early copy of this book from Valentine PR and absolutely loved it. The subject matter is dark, so definitely check the trigger warnings, but the author writes the story so beautifully, that the violence isn’t glamorized in any way. We not only see Delaney process a lifetime of trauma, but Ryker stand as a quiet support, never pushing, but always making his intentions clear. Watching them fall in love with each other for simply being present makes their love story even more authentic.
