Customer Reviews Summary
This was sooo good, like really, really good! The plot is amazing. I can understand why Dred and Reverie are the way they are and how they end up together. For that reason alone, I love Dred more than Zade. (Don't get me wrong, I love Zade, but being the exact type of criminal that you are fighting against was a concept that confused me)Reverie is the daughter of the notorious serial killer, the Locksmith. Following her story gives you a unique perspective on what it's like to follow in those type of footsteps. While the world believes her father was innocently convicted, she has to wage war with herself, knowing the truth. That alone destroys someone's psyche. Add in her abusive mother, and you have one broken and tormented soul. Though she is plagued with a myriad of mental issues such as depression and anxiety, she still keeps her head above water. She is strong, resilient, and a warrior, even if she doesn't see it. She deflects Dred's constant attacks on her from a place of kindness. Knowing why he is abusing her and her accepting partial blame due to her own inner turmoil, she accepts his hatred because even she feels it's deserved. They both live in a place of hindsight is 20-20, constantly playing the "what-if" game.Dred is the broken boy who was right, but no one believed. After the trial, he spent years stalking Rev, proof that not everything you see is fact. For years, he harbored building resentment because while he told the truth, he felt Rev and her mother lied to protect Lionel. He watched as she had everything handed to her because she was the child who lost her daddy due to a false accusation. He hated her for the public's misguided perception of the two of them, while he spent his life being bullied and harassed for being the boy who lied. Losing his mother was one of the worst things to happen to a child. He, too, is broken in so many ways. Being a public pariah and an orphan all at what he thought was Rev's doing. He took it upon himself to torment Reverie for living a happy life while he became an outcast. If the world wasn't going to punish her, he would make it his life's mission to do so himself. As the two start spending more time together, they start to see their perceptions of each other unraveling. They begin to realize they are much more alike than they ever thought, and even though you're watching, you don't really see the whole picture. The one thing Dred learns and never expected, they had a common foe, Lionel. The chemistry between them is astounding, their relationship is a love to hate each other until they actually love each other, and I'm all here for it!This book took quite a few twists and turns; the side characters really aren't side characters. Each one is placed so well with their own stories that they almost become the main event. I truly loved this more than Haunting and Hunting Adeline. Their story makes sense, from who they are to who they are becoming. Watching them grow and evolve whilst trying to stop a serial killer is amazing.
