Customer Reviews Summary
Not very impressed with this. I went for this brand because I thought it was a little more posh than Dulux, plus it had great reviews. However my experience wasn't good - so much so, in fact, that I'm moved to write this review (I don't often write reviews - something needs to be _really good_ or _really quite poor_ for me to leave a review!)I'm decorating a room with newly-plastered walls and ceiling. I've primed the bare plaster using Tikkurila primer and I know that my basecoat is sound. I've really gone to town on the primer, so the ceiling is already pretty much solid white and prior to using Johnstone's, the only bits which were a bit patchy were the edges where I'd used a brush rather than a roller. The edges were still primed, of course - and still white (more or less); but they weren't quite as solid white as everywhere else.Using Johnstone's I found the coverage to be quite poor, besides which I kept getting "blobs" in the paint - I thought maybe I was picking up blobs from the roller tray, so I switched to a brand new tray that I'd otherwise intended to use for the coloured paint on the walls. But nope - still getting blobs in the paint. Turns out this was sediment from the Johnstone's pot. I'd stirred the pot thoroughly with an actual paint stirrer, but still ended up having to pick out blobs as I was painting the ceiling.I think the fact that I'd gone to town on the primer made the Johnstone's look better than it otherwise might have. The paint seemed thick enough, but needed multiple coats round the edges where I'd used a brush and could see a patchy finish. I don't know how coverage would be if I could see the undercoat (if the primer wasn't white) but this stuff really did need an awful lot of work going over and re-going over round edges and into corners.Overall, not very happy and it's taken me way longer than it should have to get an even and half-decent finish. I note that this stuff does not claim to be "One Coat". There's a reason for that. It's absolutely NOT a one coat paint - in my case it took several (minimum 3) coats to cover a base which was already pretty much white!
