Joanne Rowling zeigt mit diesem Buch wie gut sie sich in die Gedankenwelt von Jugendlichen einfühlen kann und sie zurecht als eine der großen Jugendbuchautorinnen unserer Zeit gesehen wird. Das Buch ist düsterer und dramatischer als seine Vorgänger. Geradezu kafkaesk ist der Prozess in den Harry verwickelt ist. Die Geschichte gewinnt beständig an Tempo und kumuliert in opulenten Kampfszenen mit überraschenden Wendungen.Bereits der erste Abschnitt kündigt schicksalsschweren Ereignisse an und zeigt, daß sich Harry vom kleinen Jungen zum pubertierenden Teenager gewandelt hat. Während er in den ersten Bänden kindlich und eher verschmitzt agierte lernen wir diesmal einen ohnmächtigen Zorn kennen der rational nicht immer zu begründen ist. Unbändige Wut macht sich in ihm breit wenn er von Erwachsenen nicht als vollwertiger Partner gesehen wird. Im Drang aufzubegehren und sich gegen diese Ungerechtigkeit aufzulehnen ignoriert er deren Ratschläge und versucht seinen eigenen Weg zu gehen.Die erwachende Sexualität wird ebenfalls thematisiert, wenn auch sehr dezent und politisch äußerst korrekt. Harry bekommt einen ersten Kuß, kann sich allerdings nicht wirklich in die weibliche Gedankenwelt einfühlen und erlebt daher auch herbe Enttäuschungen. Auch Hermine hat einen Freund, was allerdings nur sehr kurz und wage angedeutet wird.Der wichtigste Schritt um das Erwachsen-werden der Hauptfiguren begreiflich zu machen ist in meinen Augen die Entzauberung der Erwachsenen. Harry erfährt durch eine Rückblende einige negative Seiten seines Vater und Sirius Blacks und erkennt daß Professor Snape auch menschliche Züge hat und verwundbar ist. Am interessantesten ist jedoch die Figur des Professor Dumbledore. So einen Lehrer (oder auch Vater) wünscht sich jedes Kind. Anstatt Harry, dessen unüberlegtes Handeln grausame Konsequenzen hat, Vorwürfe zu machen daß dieser seine Anweisungen nicht befolgt hat, gestehen er eigene Fehler ein. Er behandelt Harry als ebenbürtigen Gesprächspartner und weiht in Geheimnisse ein, die Weichenstellungen für die kommenen Bücher sind.Ein großartiges Werk und eine würdige Fortsetzung der Erfolgsreihe. Man sollte die vorhergehenden Bände gelesen haben, da die Geschichte aufbauend erzählt wird und öfter auf vergangenes Bezug genommen wird.
