I got this Blink Sync Module XR to replace my 3-year-old Sync Module 2, which I got/installed in 2022 (along with Outdoor 3rd gen cameras, at the time). I loved that when I added the Sync Module XR to the Blink app to replace my existing system/zone (did not want to create a new one), the app was able to delete the old Sync Module 2, and move all the connected cameras and doorbell over to the new Sync Module XR, without missing a beat. The process was smooth and painless, and easier than I expected (I was prepared to manually move all the cameras over, but glad I didn't have to). I used to use a USB thumb drive on the SM2, which would mount/dismount with the slightest touch (seems it was an unreliable USB port on the SM2 since this occurred with multiple USB drives), so going to a micro SD card was a welcomed change, and the main reason for upgrading.I got the SMXR as part of a bundle with an Outdoor 4 camera because it represented much better value than just buying the Sync Module XR alone, and I was experiencing range issues with my existing Outdoor (gen 3) camera which monitors my driveway. Being able to use this with the Outdoor 4 with extended range definitely makes the system more functional! Going to a live feed seems faster and more consistent/reliable.Although the SMXR is physically larger than the SM2, I found an after-market wall mount/cradle and short power cable for the SMXR, so that it's tidy and out of the way. The new module does look nicer with the soft lines/edges. Since it uses a micro SD card, it's just clean and reliable! I'm very glad I made the leap to this newer Sync Module. I haven't decided if I want to keep the old SM2 as a second "zone" or just get rid of it -- probably the latter, as I had nothing good to say about it! For fun, I was able to copy all my existing recordings from the old USB drive onto the new micro SD card (all blink and blink_backup contents), and upon inserting the card into the SMXR, all my previous clips show up in the app, so it's nice to have a seamless transition.
