What can I say? Other than A Parade of Horribles knocks it out of the park yet again! Omfg, I laughed, I teared up, and I felt endlessly tense but I LOVED every minute of it. Each level they go down my tension and concern grows and this addition certainly didn’t ease any of that.That being said, this is another fantastic addition to this unique and continuously entertaining world that Dinniman has created. The racing level had the potential to be super boring or confusing imo, but of course, it wasn’t, it was hilarious! And Dwight the unicorn?! Wow. Just wow. And the twist at the end. Just so much.The heart of this story is of course, Donut and Carl and while their humor and craziness is peak, their bond and the surprising level of depth there is beautifully written. When I started reading this book series, I did not expect the amount of heart and depth that it possesses. I don’t feel like saying that I love Donut and Carl is adequate enough to define my sentiments for them, for ALL the characters, even the mega insane AI. From Carl and Donut to Louis, Samantha, Elle, Imani, and Florin—all of them are exquisitely written and while they ooze humor and hilarity, they also evoke such depth that they feel real. It feels real. The element between Dong and Corky and Porky I was shocked at how moving I found it to be.Dinniman has managed to repeatedly weave over the top scenarios and comedy into a story that has an incredibly deep undertone while also managing to capture a sense of the familiarity in that many of the central themes—corporate overlords and greed, government censorship, rebellion, consumerism, tyrannical power hungry entities, elitists the human condition and existence in general etc—are poignant to our current cultural and political landscape. Honestly, don’t know how the dude does it. It’s hilarious while also being able to be deadly serious; politically charged while being so silly it couldn’t possibly relate to a relevant reality; message delivering whilst not being preachy. It’s an enigma of things and yeah, all of them great.On pins and needles for the sequel which I suspect will be the last. Not gonna lie folks, worried about that one. Some of the foreshadowing, oooooo, has me nervous…but is it still worth the read? Yes! Still entertaining af? Heck yeah! Will I read the follow up regardless?! Abso-fing-lutely!Stop reading reviews and read it, or if you haven’t read this series at all before, get to it!Also, anyone who whines about Donut is clearly not an animal lover and has never had a cat before. The cat is NOT annoying. She is a cat. She is acting exactly as I’d expect a show worthy Persian cat to act.
