His snark is hilarious. His possessiveness and protectiveness of Shane is touching and oh so very attractive.Shane is Shane. Anxious. Focused. Intense. Afraid. Kind of oblivious. A bit selfish.The forbidden aspect of their relationship makes heightens the attraction for Shane. The same aspect is breaking Ilya apart. Shane is thriving. Ilya is disintegrating. [Cue reader anger. Ilya must be protected at all costs]Ilya's inner turmoil is heartbreaking. His recurring dream hints at a much deeper meaning...that Ilya is ready for the world to know, but Shane is taking too long to meet him in the same space. Despite the heaviness, this book is still filled with the wit, banter, humor, love and spice we CRAVE from our favorite hockey couple. It also solidifies that Ottawa is truly the best space for our beloved Troy and Ilya (and others). The ending is absolutely worth every moment of sadness, and heartache. Aktuell leider noch nicht auf Deutsch erhältlich. Ich habe es deshalb auf Englisch gelesen und muss dazu sagen: Es war mein allererstes Buch überhaupt in englischer Sprache. Entsprechend groß war meine Unsicherheit, da mein Englisch wirklich nicht besonders gut ist. Umso positiver war ich überrascht, wie gut und verständlich das Buch geschrieben ist. Der Schreibstil ist klar, angenehm und so zugänglich, dass selbst ich der Geschichte problemlos folgen konnte.Inhaltlich hat mich The Long Game emotional sehr abgeholt. Die Story hat eine enorme Tiefe und deckt eine beeindruckende Bandbreite an Emotionen ab. Süß, traurig, emotional, intensiv. Alles ist dabei, ohne überladen zu wirken. Gerade diese Mischung hat das Buch für mich besonders gemacht. Die Charaktere und ihre Entwicklung fühlen sich ehrlich an und gehen wirklich unter die Haut.Ich habe das Buch insgesamt sehr genossen und liebe es genauso wie den Vorgänger. Umso mehr hoffe ich, dass auch dieses noch auf Deutsch erscheinen wird.Einen kleinen Kritikpunkt habe ich dennoch, wobei dieser eher gestalterischer Natur ist. Die Formatierung der Textnachrichten im Buch war für mich zunächst etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig im vergleich zu deutschen Büchern. Sie sind zwar in einer anderen Schriftart dargestellt, aber nicht sofort eindeutig als Textnachrichten zu erkennen. Gerade im Vergleich zu deutschen Ausgaben, fand ich die Darstellung dort deutlich übersichtlicher. Das war stellenweise etwas verwirrend, hat mich jedoch nicht aus dem Lesefluss gerissen.Trotzdem kann ich The Long Game absolut empfehlen, auch für Leserinnen und Leser mit wenig Englisch Erfahrung. Der Text ist gut verständlich und die Geschichte lohnt sich in jeder Hinsicht. Ein sehr emotionales, starkes Buch, das lange nachwirkt.
