I own a 4K TV, but it's what I’d call a semi-smart TV. It only had three apps: YouTube, Netflix, and Twitter. I mean, it gets the job done, but I couldn’t add anything else. So, if I wanted to watch a movie, I’d have to plug in my PC, grab the mouse, to finally watch my movie. Honestly, it was pretty tiresome... I jumped ship from an Nvidia Shield TV Tube (not pro) and a Google Chromecast With Google TV (4K), and find this 2nd Gen Amazon Fire TV 4K Max to be superior..Don't get me wrong, the Nvidia Shield Tube *should* technically be the king, but alas, I bought a Tube instead of the Pro which limits me to only 32-bit apps which prevents me from updating my Jellyfin app.I switched to a Google Chromecast With Google TV (4K) because it was free, but it was so slow that I bought this 4K Max.Well, I'm glad I did because it really is a good media consumption device. To be honest, an Nvidia Shield Pro would be far superior, but that wouldn't be a fair comparison as you could buy 4 of these Fire Sticks (depending on where you live) for the price of a single Nvidia Shield Pro.Overall, this 2nd Gen Fire TV stick 4K Max does everything well. It handles the usual suspects (Netflix, Disney+, Prime) really really well, and the audio and video are top notch with no slow downs. It handles Jellyfin (think Plex) without a hiccup. I did have some stuttering on my 4 or 5 year old Sony TV, but I realized it was a resolution configuration issue. Afterwards, all my 4K videos played smoothly.I have 3 complaints about this stick though:1) The UI is a bit cluttered. Once you go to your apps, there are rows of recommended apps below. More of an eyesore than a navigation issue, but this may confuse less techie or older folks.2) The remote control is low quality. After a few months of usage, the remote control is squeaking and I don't mean the buttons. The chassis of the remote itself doesn't seem to be braced well enough that it is mildly flexing. Perhaps I have a dud and may contact support.3) While my BT ear buds often reconnect, if I use it for another device, it won't reconnect automatically again. That in itself isn't a big deal, but I hate that you have to drill down into a few menus to reconnect the BT headphones. I wish there was a quicker way to reconnect headphones without leaving the app. Doesn't seem like a big deal on the first few times, but after having to do it several hundred times, it gets boring fast.I would highly recommend this device at regular price, and especially on sale. For non Apple folks, this is the only game in town in this price level.
