I bought it for privacy as I never fully trust anything wireless. I bought it with the firestick and I never programmed the wifi password in the firestick. I do not know if it can increase speed.I can say it is so easy to guess and use you do not really need to read the manual. No "setup" (programming) required. You look at the gadget, you guess one port goes into the firstick, another one to power supply and another one to ethernet cable. You plug everything and turn everything on and it works. No setup required in the firestick menu.But pay attention not to let the USB cable hang. This unit adds a little bit of weight and the usb port on firesticks is the deprecated micro-usb, which is more fragile than usb-c. So, if you let it hang, it will eventually scrap the usb port. Please see to it it is attached so as the usb port does not support weight.Works flawlessly insofar.
