As someone recovering from aggressive cancer, moving around isn’t always easy. I often feel like I’m lagging behind, especially in games that are supposed to be “fun” workouts. So when I saw a rhythm-based boxing game starring Hatsune Miku, I expected something colorful but punishing. Instead, I found a kind, encouraging space that lets me play at my own pace...and I’m so glad I gave it a try!. . . No body tracking just you the joycons and Miku! . . .The game wants you to follow the rhythm, sure… but it doesn’t force you. There’s no body tracking, no camera judging whether you're hitting moves exactly right. You use the joycons to do your punches. If I can’t move much one day, I can still participate. If I’m feeling stronger, I can get more into it. And no matter how well or poorly I do, the game never scolds me. Instead, it gently says things like, “You’ll get it next time!” which is always good to hear if you get down on yourself over the little things.. . . About the shop . . .Before playing, I saw some reviews talking about a shop and got worried it would require real money. But it doesn’t! The in-game shop uses currency you earn just by working out. So the more you move, the more you can unlock. It’s a great little system that rewards effort without asking for anything extra.. . The Experience . . .The music, naturally, is fantastic. Classic Vocaloid tracks like “World is Mine” and “Love Trial” keep things upbeat and energetic. Fights are choreographed like rhythm concerts, and the visuals are vibrant without being overwhelming. It feels like you’re dancing, not training… and it’s okay if your dance is offbeat… Miku will still cheer you on. If you get tired of hearing the vocaloid songs you can always use your own music from your phone or wherever if you don't mind punching and moving offbeat. We need more workout games starring Miku and her vocaloid pals it was a very cheery experience and I can see myself playing it for years to come.10/10
