Q-tips 500-Count Are $3.87 Live — Amazon Essentials Hit $2.67 While Our Q-tips Card Still Says $11

Amazon shows Q-tips Original 500-count at $3.87 and Amazon Essentials (ex-Basics) 500-count at $2.67 today. Our catalog still lists Q-tips at $11.21. Same stick count — trust the buy box, not the stale card.

Verdict: The Q-tips Original 500-count is $3.87 live on Amazon today, September 22, 2026 (List $5.09, Amazon shows 24% off). Our catalog still has that card at $11.21. The Amazon Essentials 500-count cotton swabs (previously Amazon Basics) are $2.67 live while our catalog says $2.65. Same job: 500 double-tipped cotton sticks. I would open the Essentials at $2.67 first. I would not pay our $11.21 Q-tips sticker without checking the buy box.
I cover value from Chicago. I am not posting a cotton-fluff density chart. I am asking whether the brand name on a bathroom jar is worth $1.20 over the house pack when both are 500 count and both ship from Amazon.com.
What it is
The Q-tips Original is the blue-box classic: 100% cotton tips on both ends, 500 count on this ASIN, Flexor-style flexible stick in the copy. Our catalog rating blob shows 4.8 from about 14,780 ratings. Live Amazon showed In Stock with Amazon.com as seller and shipper when I checked with Chicago ZIP 60614. Add to Cart was present. Unit line on the page: $0.01 per count. Subscribe & Save showed the same $3.87 as one-time today — no extra cut on that offer. A multi-buy “Save $0.94 on 2 select items” banner was up; I am quoting the one-time buy box, not a stacked cart math problem.
The Amazon Essentials pack is the house-brand twin: 500-count double-tipped cotton swabs, page title says Previously Amazon Basics, Pack of 1. Live Amazon showed In Stock, Amazon.com seller and shipper, Add to Cart present, same Chicago 60614 check. One-time buy box $2.67. Subscribe & Save showed $2.54 (5% off). An optional first-order Subscribe coupon was listed unchecked — I did not clip it, so I am not claiming that lower number. Unit line also $0.01 per count because Amazon rounds pennies the same way on both pages.
Two bathroom jars. One name your mom used. One name Amazon keeps renaming.
Who it's for
Buy the Essentials at $2.67 if the job is cleaning a keyboard gap, a charger port, or a toddler’s chin and you do not need the blue logo on the shelf. That is the number I would text a roommate who asked for “just swabs.”
Buy the Q-tips at $3.87 if you wanted the brand you already trust, the rating blob matters to you, or Essentials was out of stock for your ZIP. $3.87 vs $2.67 is $1.20 for 500 sticks — about a quarter-cent per swab. I am not pretending that is a skincare system.
Buy neither catalog sticker as gospel. Our Q-tips card at $11.21 (with a crossed $14.94 on the catalog) is not the live story. Our Essentials card at $2.65 is basically live.
Who should skip
Skip both if you already have a half-full jar under the sink. Skip if you needed spiral tips, paper sticks only, or a travel tin — these ASINs are the straight 500-count jar. Skip if Amazon shows Currently unavailable for your ZIP when you open the DP — both pages had a usable buy box for Chicago 60614 today. Skip if you wanted cotton rounds for toner; that is a different ASIN in our catalog.
We already covered eos lotion in another post. This is cotton sticks, not body cream.
Honest nits
- Catalog lag on Q-tips is the story. $11.21 on our card vs $3.87 live is not a “deal badge.” It is a refresh problem. Trust the buy box.
- Almost the same live unit line. Amazon prints $0.01/count on both. The real gap is the $1.20 pack delta, not a different stick class.
- I will not invent a lint test. Soft tips are a claim on both listings. If a tip shredded in your ear last week, switch brands once and move on.
- Subscribe math is optional. Essentials S&S at $2.54 is real on the page. Q-tips S&S matched one-time $3.87 today. Coupons you did not clip do not count as the price.
Value verdict
Buy the Amazon Essentials 500-count if live Amazon is still near $2.67 and a plain jar is fine. Buy Q-tips if you want the blue box and live is still near $3.87. Buy neither at our stale Q-tips $11.21 card without opening the page.
Worth the catalog $11.21 for Q-tips when Amazon shows $3.87? No. Worth sweating the $1.20 between live Essentials and live Q-tips? Only if the logo on the counter is the whole point.
