Our homepage scrape is showing $2,439.10 for a 13-inch M4 MacBook Air. That number is wrong. Here's the real street price, why Amazon stock looks thin, and when this laptop is actually worth buying.

If you landed here from our homepage, you probably saw the 13-inch Apple 2025 MacBook Air with M4 listed as a "Deal of the Day" at $2,439.10.
That price is not a deal. It is a bad number.
Apple's own launch price for the base 13-inch M4 Air (16GB unified memory, 256GB SSD) was $999. Amazon has sold that same configuration, sold-and-shipped by Amazon, as low as $749 and routinely around $799. Paying anything close to $2,400 for the base model is a scrape error, a third-party marketplace listing, or both. Do not click Buy until you check the seller and the configuration.

We checked current Amazon listings and camelcamelcamel price history on August 22, 2026.

camelcamelcamel's last Amazon-sold price on the Sky Blue base model was a dash — meaning Amazon itself is not currently showing a clean new offer. That matches what we saw on the live Amazon product pages: "No featured offers available," with marketplace / used listings filling the gap.
If a marketplace seller is asking $1,200–$2,400 for a used or new-other base M4 Air, walk away. The machine is not worth that.
Why the homepage number is this wrong
We do not have access to the product-import log, but the pattern is familiar on affiliate catalogs:
- The scraper grabbed a marketplace offer instead of the Amazon-sold price.
- It may have mixed currencies or configurations (a maxed-out 24GB / 2TB build can actually approach the mid-$2,000s at Apple).
- It did not fall back to "unavailable" when Amazon stopped featuring a new offer.
The title on our homepage is the base 16GB / 256GB Silver Air. That machine has never been a $2,400 laptop at retail.
Rule of thumb: if the price on our product card is more than about 20% above Apple's $999 list and the seller is not Amazon.com, treat the card as broken and open the Amazon listing yourself.
Is the M4 Air still worth buying in August 2026?
Yes — at the right price. Not as a "current flagship."
Apple has already moved the Air lineup forward. The 2026 MacBook Air with the M5 chip is the new default on Amazon search results. The M4 Air is last year's excellent laptop, which is exactly when it becomes a good value — if you can still buy it new from Amazon or Apple at a clearance-style number.
Buy the M4 Air if:
- You find it new, sold by Amazon or Apple, at $799 or less
- You want a light 2.7 lb daily driver for writing, browsing, video calls, photos, and light creative work
- 16GB of unified memory is enough (it is, for most people)
- You can live with 256GB of internal storage, or you will use cheap external SSD / iCloud
Skip the M4 Air if:
- The only offers are marketplace sellers above $999
- You need a current-generation machine with the longest software runway and you can afford the M5
- You edit video all day or run heavy local AI workloads — look at a MacBook Pro instead
- 256GB will make you miserable (it fills up faster than people expect)
The M4 itself is not the problem. It is still a fast, quiet, all-day battery laptop. The problem is paying 2024-Pro money for 2025-Air hardware that already cleared at $749–$799.
What you actually get
We are not going to pretend we just spent three weeks with a review unit. These are the facts that matter for a buying decision, from Apple's published specs and the long public review record on this model:
- M4 with 10-core CPU. Fine for Chrome-with-too-many-tabs, Zoom, Lightroom, Final Cut of family videos, and Xcode for smaller projects.
- 16GB unified memory as the base. This is the first Air generation where Apple stopped shipping 8GB. Do not go backwards.
- Up to 18 hours of claimed battery life. Real-world mixed use is typically mid-teens. Still a full workday.
- 13.6-inch Liquid Retina, 2560 x 1664. Bright, sharp, not a mini-LED XDR panel. Fine for everything except color-critical pro work.
- Two Thunderbolt ports, MagSafe, headphone jack. You will want a hub. Budget $30–$50.
- Fanless. Silent. It will thermal-limit before a Pro does. That is the trade.
The 256GB SSD is the weak point, not the chip. If you can find a 16GB / 512GB M4 Air near $999, that is the configuration we would rather send people to.
How to buy it without getting burned
- Open the Amazon listing: Silver, Starlight, or Sky Blue.
- Confirm Sold by Amazon.com (or Apple). Not a third-party storefront with a 3.2-star seller rating.
- Confirm the config line: 16GB / 256GB (or 512GB). Do not pay base-model money for a 256GB machine and then discover it is "used — acceptable."
- If the buy box is empty, wait. A $799 Amazon restock is a better outcome than a $1,287 used listing.
- Check Apple's refurbished store and education pricing in the same session. Those sometimes beat a thin Amazon marketplace.

If you need a laptop this week and Amazon has no clean M4 Air offer, do not pay the homepage number and do not pay $1,200+ used.
Either:
