Don't Hunt a Fake iPhone 17 Pro Deal — $1,099 New or $220 Off Renewed Premium

New 17 Pro 256GB is still $1,099. The only verified cut this week is Amazon Renewed Premium: $1,179 for 512GB and $1,279 for 1TB. Here is the math versus iPhone Air.

Verdict: A new unlocked iPhone 17 Pro is $1,099 for 256GB at Apple and Best Buy. That price does not move. If you want a discount, Amazon Renewed Premium is the only honest cut I could verify this week — $1,179 for 512GB (list $1,299 new) and $1,279 for 1TB (list $1,499 new). That is $120–$220 off, not a miracle.
Sources: Apple / Best Buy list $1,099 for 256GB (ApplePriceHunt snapshot August 2026). 9to5Toys' August 21 weekend deals still had Renewed Premium 512GB at $1,179 and 1TB at $1,279 across Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue, and Silver. ASIN B0FSB8V9NK is a US unlocked Renewed 256GB Deep Blue card I can attach. Higher-storage Renewed SKUs rotate.
I have said this in every iPhone cycle since the 13: Apple does not discount new Pros. Amazon's scrape cards will lie. Third-party "new" listings at $1,400 are not a deal. Renewed Premium is the only channel I will send a reader to if they refuse to pay list — 1-year Amazon Renewed Guarantee and a battery Apple-style claim of greater than 90% original capacity. Regular "excellent" refurbs are cheaper and only carry 90 days plus an 80% battery floor. Read the badge.
What 17 Pro actually is
6.3-inch ProMotion 120 Hz. A19 Pro. Pro Fusion camera system with a Center Stage front camera. The phone photographers should buy in this generation. US units are eSIM-only. If you need a physical SIM, you are shopping the wrong country SKU.
I am not dropping fake DxO or Geekbench tables. 17 Pro photographs better than Air and better than base 17 because of the extra cameras and the Fusion stack. That is visible in published samples from every major outlet this cycle. If you do not care about 5x-class zoom or Ultra Wide, you are paying $260+ over Air for a camera bar and a thicker battery.
The math I would run
| Path | What you get | Money | | --- | --- | --- | | New 256GB from Apple / Best Buy | Latest, AppleCare-easy, full battery | $1,099 list | | Renewed Premium 512GB | 1-year Amazon guarantee, 90%+ battery claim | $1,179 this week | | Renewed Premium 1TB | Same, more storage | $1,279 this week | | iPhone Air 256GB | Thinner, one camera, A19 Pro | $840 |
512GB Renewed at $1,179 vs new 256GB at $1,099 is the interesting line. You pay $80 more for double the storage and a refurbished unit. That is rational if you shoot a lot of 4K and you accept Renewed. It is not rational if you want AppleCare+ on day one from Apple. Apple still was not selling 17 Pro in its own refurbished store as of the 9to5Toys notes this month — they usually wait until the next series lands.
Nits
Cosmic Orange looks like a keynote. Deep Blue hides wear better. Silver is the one that shows pocket marks. I would not buy a no-name marketplace "new" 17 Pro at $1,250. I would not buy a 256GB Renewed at $1,050 from a third-party if the battery line item is missing.
If you can wait for iPhone 18 in September, wait. If you need a Pro camera this month, pay $1,099 new or $1,179 for Renewed Premium 512GB. Those are the two adult options.
Compare
Air is the thinner alternative. Live cards: Compare iPhone 17 Pro vs iPhone Air.
