What you actually get
Apple announced Max 2 on March 16, 2026. It is not a USB-C port swap on the 2020 cans. The useful upgrades:
- H2 chip — the same family as recent AirPods Pro, which is what Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, Personalized Volume, Voice Isolation, and Live Translation ride on
- USB-C charging
- Camera Remote — Digital Crown can trigger photo / video on a paired iPhone or iPad
- Same aluminum-and-mesh design language as the original, in five colors: midnight, starlight, orange, purple, blue
We are not inventing a star rating. Coverage is consistent: excellent inside Apple's ecosystem, a worse value on Android, where you lose the features that justify the metal.
Buy it if
- You have an iPhone or iPad and want over-ear ANC
- $429 is in budget and $549 was not
- You tried the originals and bounced off the Lightning port / missing Adaptive Audio
- You want Find My on a pair of headphones you will actually be sad to lose
Skip it if
- You use Android as your daily phone — buy the Sony WH-1000XM6 at $398 instead
