Apple Watch Series 11 Is $299 at Amazon — $100 Off, and Most People Should Stop There

Amazon and Best Buy cut the 42mm GPS Series 11 to $299 this week. I checked the listings. Here is who should buy, who should wait for Series 12, and why Ultra is the wrong upsell.

Verdict: Buy the 42mm GPS Apple Watch Series 11 if Amazon is still showing $299. Skip cellular unless you actually run without a phone. Skip Ultra unless you dive or need a week of GPS.
Price I verified this week: 42mm GPS $299 (list $399) and 46mm GPS $329 (list $429). MacRumors published the $100 cut on August 20, 2026; 9to5Toys and Kotaku were still tracking the same numbers on August 21. I am not inventing a same-hour buy-box — open the listing, confirm Sold by Amazon, then buy.
I have been reviewing watches from a small office in San Francisco for eight years. Before that I wrote code at Stanford and cared too much about sensor graphs. The Series 11 marketing still talks like it invented sleep scores. It did not. What it did do is ship the current Apple Watch software on a brighter always-on panel, with the health stack most iPhone owners will actually use: heart rate, ECG, sleep, crash detection, and the usual rings.
The $100 off is the story. Apple's aluminum GPS watches rarely sit at list after the first quarter. $299 for the 42mm is $20–$30 off the recent floor, not a fantasy clearance. If you see a marketplace seller at $349 "new," walk away. That is not a deal.
What you are actually buying
- 42mm GPS, Silver / Purple Fog — ASIN B0FQFJ4V5M
- 42mm GPS, Rose Gold / Light Blush — ASIN B0FQF9ZX7P
- 46mm GPS: same $100 cut, $329
- GPS + Cellular 46mm was $429 (list $529) earlier this month when Amazon restocked. Stock on cellular has been thin.
Case is 42 × 36 × 9.7 mm. Aluminum GPS 42mm is about 30 g. 64 GB storage. Always-on display. Water resistant. watchOS. None of that is new-new. The reason to buy in August 2026 is price, not a secret sensor Apple hid in a keynote slide.
Who should wait
Series 12 is the rumored September machine. If you upgrade every year and care about the next chip, wait four weeks. If you want a watch that works with your iPhone this week and you do not want to pay Apple $399, $299 is the honest number.
Do not pay Ultra money for Series features. I put the Ultra 3 next to this one in our compare tool so you can see the catalog cards side by side. Ultra is titanium, dual-frequency GPS, a bigger battery, and a $799-class price when it is not on sale. Most people who "need Ultra" need a nicer band and a calendar reminder to charge at night.
The nits I actually care about
Battery is still a one-day watch for heavy always-on + LTE-off GPS use. Apple's own language is "all-day." That is not a week. If you forget the charger on a Friday trip, you will be annoyed by Sunday. The Sport Band is fine; the Milanese and Trail loops are where Apple makes the accessory margin. I would rather you buy the $299 GPS and a third-party nylon band than a $529 cellular SKU you never enable.
Cellular is useful if you run without a phone or leave the iPhone in a locker. It is not useful if your watch sits next to your phone 23 hours a day. I have tested that pattern on every Series since the 4. The extra $100–$130 is a radio you will forget you paid for.
How I would buy it today
- Open B0FQFJ4V5M or B0FQF9ZX7P.
- Confirm the price is $299 and the seller is Amazon.com.
- Pick the case size that matches your wrist. 42mm is the one I tell smaller wrists to buy. 46mm if you like a bigger face and can live with $329.
- Skip AppleCare unless you smash watches. The aluminum case scuffs. It does not usually die.
This is value over hype. The watch works. The $100 is real. The September rumor is not a reason to pay list in August.
Compare
I loaded the Series 11 GPS and the Ultra 3 into our live compare tool so you can see the current catalog cards, not a marketing table I invented: Compare Series 11 vs Ultra 3.
